Certification Program in Canine Massage ~

This comprehensive certification program in canine massage is offered in two formats, paper based distance learning through Treetops and as an online ondemand program through E-training For Dogs.

Students will begin this program in the Canine Anatomy and Physiology Course with an overview of canine anatomy, physiology and patho physiology which will aid in their understanding of the relationship between anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology and massage therapy in animals.

Students will then move onto the Canine Massage Course learning all the relevant Swedish massage therapy strokes; history and theory of massage; definition and purpose of massage for canines; creating a positive working environment for massage; physiological effects of massage for canines; psychological effects of massage for canines; contraindications to massage for canines; assessment and treatment protocols for canines; an introduction to hydrotherapy for canines; canine biomechanics and kinesiology; case studies of common canine soft tissue issues. Students will then move onto specialized massage techniques including acupressure, lymph drainage massage, reflexology and sports massage. Additionally the course covers business and client management, professionalism and ethics. Throughout the program we observe and respond to canine behaviour. There is also discussion and practice of positive canine handling skills.

The entire program involves 21 student directed learning units, the submission of video assignments, 40 full body canine massage practice sessions, and finally the completion of written and practical certification exams. The online program requires the additional review of 34 ninety minute online lectures. Students will be required to complete homework assignments that will involve the submission of written work, pictures and video demonstrations.
