Animal Anatomy and Physiology Course ~ $250.00 CAD
NO PREREQUISITE - Advanced standing may be granted to eligible students; see the advanced standing test out description below. This course is a prerequisite for the canine and equine massage courses. Students will receive training in animal anatomy and physiology. Students will develop an understanding of the relationship between anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology and massage therapy in animals. The course is designed to give the students the necessary information in order to understand the relationship between how the body is composed, how it works and the impact massage therapy will have on these systems. Knowledge level upon successful completion on the course will be equivalent to that of a Veterinary Nurse / Technician. Students may purchase this course individually or combine it with one of the massage courses and receive significant savings. To purchase in combination with a massage course please check off on any of the "Complete Programs" in the Course List on the registration form. Students will receive a comprehensive manual that includes the worksheet assignments to be completed in a .pdf file sent via email. A hard copy manual can be sent via regular mail if students make this request at the time of registering.
Animal anatomy and physiology test out ~ $50.00 CAD ~
For those students with training in animal anatomy and physiology i.e. vet technicians, vet nurses, animal health care professionals etc. advanced standing is possible in this course. In order to be eligible to enroll directly into either the canine massage and / or equine massage course students need to first contact Treetops and provide details of their training in anatomy and physiology. If Treetops deems the training sufficient, then students will be granted permission to challenge the Anatomy and Physiology final exam. The student then has 24 hours to set up a day and time with Treetops to complete this exam within the following 14 days. The exam can be sent out via email or fax, the student will have two hours to complete the exam and must receive a minimum grade of 75% in order to have successfully tested out and receive permission to enroll directly into a massage course. Students who fail to make this minimum grade will need to enroll in the anatomy and physiology course. Details on the exam layout will be provided to the student at the time permission is granted for them to challenge exam. PLEASE NOTE the exam fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be used as credit towards any other course offered by Treetops.
Canine Massage Course ~ $650.00 CAD
PREREQUISITE - Animal Anatomy and Physiology. The course involves 15 units and students will learn all the relevant Swedish massage therapy strokes; history and theory of massage; definition and purpose of massage for canines; creating a positive working environment for massage; physiological effects of massage for canines; psychological effects of massage for canines; contraindications to massage for canines; assessment and treatment protocols for canines; an introduction to hydrotherapy for canines; canine biomechanics and kinesiology; case studies of common canine soft tissue issues. The course also develops specialized massage skills to deal with a wide variety of health issues. Students will be introduced to the specialized massage skills of acupressure, sports massage, lymphatic drainage massage, reflexology and the use of colour therapy. The course also introduces students to effective business development and sustainability skills and provides a wide variety of information on small business resources available through local, regional and national governments and financial institutions. The course also helps students complete their case study requirements and prepare for the certification exams. Students will be provided with a comprehensive manual and two instructional videos. The videos provide details on the assessment procedures – visual, palpation and gaiting including the impact different surfaces will have on the gait, the creation of a positive and safe working environment, all the massage strokes, the specialized massage strokes, a complete therapeutic massage session and a stretch routine.
Equine Massage Course ~ $550.00 CAD
PREREQUISITE - Animal Anatomy and Physiology. The course involves 11 units and students will learn all the relevant Swedish massage therapy strokes; history and theory of massage; definition and purpose of massage for equines; creating a positive working environment for equine massage; physiological effects of massage for equines; psychological effects of massage for equines; contraindications to massage for equines; assessment and treatment protocols for equines; an introduction to hydrotherapy for equines; equine biomechanics and kinesiology. Instruction will also be provided in advanced equine massage techniques including sports massage, lymph drainage massage and colour therapy. Throughout the course you’ll learn to observe and respond to equine behaviour using positive equine handling skills. The course also covers business and client management, professionalism and ethics. The course also helps students complete their case study requirements and prepare for the certification exams. Students will be provided with a comprehensive manual and an instructional video.
